Catch of the Month - February 2007
I would like to nominate Rosemary Carter, coordinator of the Testing Center, for the FISH award for this month. Rosemary has had many “FISHY” moments in the last few months as she has performed her job of overseeing the testing of thousands of students who are either entering Lone Star College-Kingwood or who are current students utilizing the services of the Lone Star College-Kingwood Testing Center.
During the months of October, November, December, and January, Rosemary arranged for potential students to take the ASSET and Quick THEA tests so that they could enroll in spring semester classes. Many Saturdays Rosemary has been on campus at 7:00 a.m. to shuttle testing materials to the LIB and CLA buildings where the tests are administered. Oftentimes she does not leave until late afternoon, at which time she is heading to a FedEx office to get the test materials shipped to the testing companies so the students can receive test results as soon as possible. During all of this, she maintains a friendly smile and always offers a helping hand to the part-time proctors who help her with this monumental task.
More importantly, though, Rosemary often takes extra time, staying late on week nights, to administer an ASSET test for students who are disappointed with their COMPASS scores and want to try again to get the score that will place them in a college level course (rather than a developmental class). These are times that she goes beyond the call of duty to offer a special service to students who could easily become discouraged in the testing/registration process. The excellent enrollment figures that we have seen this semester are partially due to the extra effort that Rosemary and her part-time test proctors have put forth to get these students tested.
I hope that the committee will agree with me that Rosemary Carter deserves recognition this month for putting forth the extra effort to make Lone Star College-Kingwood a place that cares and that provides a way for students to be successful!
