Audio Visual Systems Specialist Open House Scheduled!

Instructor demonstrating control boardThe AVSS Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, January 7th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. New and innovative lighting, sound, and video technology will be on display for students interested in joining this new program at Montgomery. Students, faculty, staff, and industry leaders will be on hand for the event. Enrollment in the program is steadily growing and students can register at the open house. Refreshements will be provided to all interested students. Keeping the audiences’ attention is vital in today’s technology-driven society whether it’s a hot concert act, a traveling Broadway or local theatre stage production, a megachurch, or even Fortune 500 board room. And the best way to capture anyone’s interest is through two of the most important senses – sight and hearing.

The unique Audio Visual Systems Specialist program at Lone Star College–Montgomery provides three levels of state-of-the-art training for entry into the audio visual industry. Audio Visual System Specialist students will be provided the foundational knowledge, skill and abilities to design, maintain and operate audio/video/lighting systems and equipment in the variety of work environments that require audio/video/lighting systems and equipment.

Audio Visual TechnicianAnd by working closely with industry professionals in the development of the program and through a vital co-op internship, Lone Star College–Montgomery hopes to provide graduates with important contacts for job placement after program completion.

What programs are available?

For Audio Visual Systems Specialist, Lone Star College–Montgomery offers a Level I Certificate; a Level II Certificate; and an Associate of Applied Science Degree.

 

How long does it take to complete the program? 

The Level I Certificate consists of 76.8 Continuing Education Unit’s (CEUs) and can be completed in 2 semesters; and the Level II Certificate consists of 129.6 CEUs and can be completed in 3 semesters (which includes the 2 semesters for the Level I Certificate).

The AAS Degree consists of 64 credit hours and can be completed in 4 semesters.

What do Audio Visual Systems Specialists do? 

Audio Visual Systems Specialists set up and operate specialty lighting equipment and audio and video equipment including microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards, and related electronic equipment for concerts, sports events, meetings and conventions, presentations, and news conferences.

How is the job market and how much can I expect to earn? 

According to the America’s Career InfoNet Occupation Report, there will be a 18% increase in this field over the next seven years. And in Texas, specialists average $13.51 an hour and can earn more than $24.48 an hour.
