KC Intensive English Program (ESL)

The Intensive English Program at Lone Star College-Kingwood is an English as a Second Language (ESL) Program designed for non-native English speakers who have a desire to learn and improve their English language listening comprehension, speaking, reading, grammar, and composition skills. The program is for students and working professionals wishing to build practical English skills for general, academic, or professional purposes and uses the most current teaching methods appropriate for each level. In addition to traditional classes, where students attend classes regularly, the program also offers hybrid courses, in which students complete part of their studies online and in a computer lab.

The Program

The Intensive English Program offers 8-week and 16-week courses in six levels of listening and speaking, reading and vocabulary, and grammar and writing. These courses are designed for students who are preparing for college study as well as for those wanting to improve their English for work and other daily activities. Fluency and accuracy in both spoken and written English are emphasized. Small class sizes allow each participant a maximum amount of individual attention from highly-qualified instructors and an opportunity to develop conversational and written skills. Students have access to a state-of-the-art computer lab with the latest computer software programs and Internet resources to practice their English. ESL students may obtain non-transferable credits or continuing education units (CEUus) depending on their enrollment.
The program is authorized to issue the I-20 for students who need to obtain an F-1 student visa for full-time intensive English study. All new international students must attend an international student information session during their first semester.

The Student

The program serves a diverse group of students from over 50 countries with various educational backgrounds. Some students are immigrants who have made the United States their home, while others are international students pursuing a higher degree. The program also caters to professionals temporarily in the Uu.S. to work and improve their English language skills.
Students who complete the program may move directly into academic studies at Lone Star College-Kingwood, apply for admission to other colleges or universities, or return home with enhanced English language skills to apply to their work or studi
