KC Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory care is an allied health specialty instrumental in the diagnostic treatment, management, and preventive care of patients with cardiopulmonary problems. Respiratory care personnel carry out specific therapeutic measures to assist respiratory-distressed patients and are an essential part of the critical team.

The Program

Respiratory care is a two-year program leading to an associate of applied science degree. Classes begin at Lone Star College-Kingwood in January of each year.

The program is approved by:
• The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
• The Texas Colleges and University System
• The Committee on Accreditation of Respiratory Care Education Programs
• The Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

The respiratory care program prepares graduates to be competent in the delivery of cardiopulmonary care.


Employment Opportunities

Employment for respiratory care professionals can be found in acute care, sub-acute care, and rehabilitation hospitals; hyperbaric medicine; home care facilities and physician offices. Patients are found in newborn nurseries, surgical and medical units, emergency rooms, outpatient departments, and intensive care units of hospitals. Hospitals are the single largest employer of respiratory care personnel.
