Health Occupations Institute

Health Occupations Information Session

All prospective Health Occupations students are encouraged to attend information sessions which will feature presentations by program directors and faculty representatives. We will review the curriculum and program expectations, as well as admission requirements and application procedures. Ample time is reserved for Q & A. Information session presentations start promptly and attendees are urged to arrive on time.

There are several ways to register for Continuing Education courses. You may search and register for courses online (My Records), bring your completed registration form to Lone Star College-Kingwood, register by telephone, mail, or fax.

Texas Law (25 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) 97.63 and 97.64) requires that all students enrolled in health related courses, which will involve direct patient contact in medical or dental care facilities be immunized against measles, rubella, mumps, diptheria, tetanus and hepatits B.  Students must submit a statement indicating the month and year of each immunization when registering for classes.  All immunization requirements must be met to proceed in a clinical course.  Students who are not in compliance with the above policy will not be permitted to participate in clinical activities.

Admission to the Health Occupations Institute does not guarantee eligibility for certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Criminal background checks are a part of the screening process conducted by the Texas Department of State Health Services. As a result, some candidates may be ineligible for certification. Clinical facilities will require students to successfully pass a background check. Candidates with concerns about their background in this regard should contact the Texas Department of State Health Services in Austin with specific concerns. Lone Star College System personnel are unable to make any determinations as to a potential candidate's eligibilty.
