MARKET-BASED REVIEWS
To ensure we are meeting our objectives, Lone Star College System participates in annual surveys with other Texas Community Colleges as well as additional local and national surveys.
Market surveys use benchmark jobs to compare salaries of common/similar positions in other institutions or organizations. This information is used to determine if Lone Star College System salaries are at the average of Texas Community Colleges. Internally, these benchmark jobs are compared to other Lone Star College System positions in the same salary range to ensure our pay is equitable across the system.
Example: One benchmark job is the Financial Aid Specialist, as that is a common position across Community Colleges. Using survey results, Lone Star College System compares our Financial Aid Specialist salaries to other Community Colleges to see if we are paying at the average (95%-105% of average). Individual jobs are then reviewed to determine if market adjustment is needed.
Lone Star College System then looks internally at other positions in the same salary grade as the benchmark job (a B22 for the Specialist III, Financial Aid) to see if the other jobs in that salary grade are also paying at the average and determine if our salary schedule needs to be adjusted. Annual surveys are conducted statewide on benchmark positions.
