Judith Watson Arts and Humanities

Judith Watson, Counsellor
Welcome

Hello and Welcome! I'm Judith Watson and the Academic Counselor for the Arts and Humanities Division

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and Psychology. Later, I earned my Master of Arts degree in Counseling at Marshall University in West Virginia. For many years, I worked as a Psychotherapist in the Houston area before returning to the University of Pittsburgh as an Academic Advisor, in the School Arts and Sciences and the Psychology Department.

I joined Lone Star College-Kingwood in August 2005, and I'm happy to be serving as the Academic Counselor in the Arts and Humanities Division. Here I do what I enjoy most and that is working with students as they begin their academic journey.

What I Do

I offer counseling and referral to all students at Kingwood. As the Arts and Humanities Counselor, I specialize in counseling students who are interested in Visual and Performing Arts, Speech Communication, and English Writing and Literature, as well as ESL, Interior Design, and Cosmetology. Academic Counseling can involve helping students make decisions about educational and career goals, balancing the roles of student, spouse, parent, and employee, managing stress and anxiety, coping with crisis situations, and any other situations students face.

In addition, I work with students on Probation and Suspension, in conjunction with Sharon Kenemore, Academic Counselor for Business, Technology and Social and Behavioral Sciences. Together, we address the needs of students on probation in the form of mandatory meetings, mentoring, helping with study skills, and balancing work, school and family life.

As a trained and licensed counselor (LPC) I also offer brief personal counseling and referral to community services when needed. Personal counseling can help students with such things as: stress management, procrastination, time management, grief and loss, assertiveness, building self-confidence, dealing with crisis situations, and career decisions.
