Richard Carpenter, Ed.D.
On Aug. 1, 2007, Dr. Richard Carpenter became the third chancellor to lead the Lone Star College System. The district is among the largest and fastest growing community college districts in Texas and will serve more than 60,000 credit and non-credit students this fall.
A native of Franklinton, La., he has taught at all educational levels: elementary school through university graduate school. Throughout his career, Dr. Carpenter has received numerous state and national awards and recognitions for higher education, economic development and community leadership, and a University of Texas Study ranked him as one of the top community college presidents in the country.
Dr. Carpenter most recently served as president of the College of Southern Nevada located primarily in Las Vegas. Prior to that, Dr. Carpenter served for more than 20 years as a community college president in the states of Wisconsin, Kentucky, Minnesota, California and Alabama.
