Forensics

Forensics is competitive speaking and interpreting. Through one-on-one coaching, students in forensics develop and strengthen their speaking skills, learning to communicate more effectively. It is an intense activity, demanding time, concentration, and energy, but the effort returns lifetime skills such as poise, confidence, and the ability to handle pressure.

Our program

Forensics is an activity intended to help students improve communication skills through competition in intercollegiate speech tournaments or through the presentation of speeches in public settings.

The Lone Star College-Kingwood Forensics Team is part of an academic program that emphasizes all three major areas of forensic speech: public speaking, oral interpretation, and debate.

Speaking categories include After Dinner, Extemporaneous, Informative, Impromptu, Persuasive, and Communication Analysis. Interpretation events include Dramatic, Poetry, Prose, and Programmed Oral Interpretation. Three types of debate are offered and students may participate in both speaking and debate.

While some students come to our program from high school debate teams, no previous forensics experience is required. In fact, some of our best competitors started with us as novice speakers.

Forensic students help each other prepare presentations, travel together, meet new people, and generally enjoy the camaraderie this team activity affords.

Travel includes four or five tournaments per semester, as teams compete with other schools in Texas and across the U.S. Many students earn transfer scholarships through exposure on this university circuit.
