Probation and Suspension Information
The Academic Standards of Lone Star College System and Lone Star College-Kingwood are based on a philosophy of maximizing student progress toward successful course and program completion. Academic success in college requires maturity and dedication to regular and well defined study habits. Academic standard criteria are designed to monitor students' progress so that students and college staff can intervene and explore options to assist students who have difficulty meeting minimum requirements for successful course or program completion.
Academic Standing is computed at the end of each enrollment period and is based upon the following grades and marks: A,B,C,D,F,I, IP, and W, earned by the student at Lone Star College System. Different grade point calculations are used in determining academic standing:
Semester Grade Point Average (GPA) - includes all grades earned in all courses at Lone Star College System
Cumulative Credit GPA - includes grades earned and all college level classes at Lone Star College System (does not include developmental courses)
Students can confirm semester and cumulative GPA by visiting My Records or by obtaining an Advising Profile from the Admissions office at any Lone Star College System campus.
Students on Academic Probation are required to attend an Academic Probation meeting prior to registration. Please register online for the required Academic Probation meeting. Email Judith Watson for additional information.
Students on Suspension must sit out for one semester before re-enrolling. If extenuating circumstances exist, students may submit an appeal to the Dean of Student Services. The appeal will go before a committee to be considered. Click on "Suspension Appeals Process" for detailed information on the process. Dates for Suspension Appeals Committee meetings are listed on the Counseling calendar.
