The PSSA sponsored the following activities and events in 2005/2006
In September “U” were showing what “U’r” group is made of – compassion. Through “U’r” acts of kindness many of our employees and strangers were lifted up by “U’r” generous donations of money and time during the devastation and recovery caused by storms Katrina and Rita.
October 5, 2005 was “Cost Savings & Dollar Stretching Idea Day”. Employees were asked to contribute cost saving ideas in advance. A booklet was prepared and handed out at this meeting. Saving topics covered were Beauty, Clothing, Coupons, Education & Entertainment, Financial, Food, Gasoline and Travel.
Also in October, on the morning of the 17th –“U” and “U’r” bosses celebrated together at our annual Boss’s Day Breakfast! Great pastries, fruit, cereals, yogurt and drinks were just some of the goodies that were provided and “U” said “thanks” for all the hard work they do for our district.
One of “U’r” favorite events is our annual November Thanksgiving Feast! This event was held on Friday, November 12th and was a wonderful thankful and thoughtful gathering time for all employees evoking appreciation and enjoyment by all. This fantastic, filling, feast was catered by Catering Delights. Beautiful seasonal gift baskets were given away as door prizes.
In December our “Christmas Tree Gift Tag” giving opportunity helped “U” to collect toys and gifts for the Spring Assistance Ministries (SAM). We had to ask SAM to provide more names several times because “U” just kept on giving. Thanks to “U” Christmas was enjoyed by many families that wouldn’t have been able to do it without “U”.
On December 7th “U” also helped raise over $400 by generously baking and purchasing delicious homemade and beautifully decorated and artfully packaged food items in the “Let’s Bake A Difference” bake sale. Proceeds were donated to Humble Area Assistance Ministries.
January 26th, 2006 brought the New “U” Luncheon featuring Dr. Clouthier who provided excellent nutritional and alternative health information for our group. Dr. Clouthier presented to our group in January 2005 as well, and is a very well received presenter. The event was very well attended as it was in January 2005. A lunch of salad and all the great fixins’, fresh fruit and drinks were provided. As a door prize, Dr. Clouthier generously donated a gift certificate for a free nutritional analysis worth approximately $400.
March 8th was the annual “Lone Star College System – Go Texan Day”. A chili cook-off was the main event of the day! Teams and individuals competed for the “Down Home Texan Chili” award. Side dishes and desserts were provided by “U”. Thanks to “U’r” participation, this was another fun and successful event. Those of "U" who dressed western (which was the encouraged attire) made it even more fun! (Yes, jeans, boots and cowboy hats were donned by a majority of "U" !)
On April 25th we hosted a breakfast in honor of all the administrative assistants and support staff to kick off Administrative Assistant’s week.
May 5th – Cinco de Mayo - A delicious catered lunch, games and prizes made the day enjoyable for all who participated.
June - An ice cream social in conjunction with our birthday bash for June rounded out the activities for this year. We hope "U" enjoyed all of our events and look forward to next year with a new PSSA Council.
Birthday Bash celebrations are monthly events that give recognition to every employee that wishes to participate. They are fun gathering times that give us a chance to get to know each other a little better, laugh and share some special treats. Every birthday person receives a card and their very own special goodies. If "U'r" not on the list, make sure to let us know so "U" can join in the fun!
