I would like to nominate Sarah Berry for Catch of the Month. While Sarah is a whiz at her job, she has distinguished herself as an employee in a very special way. Her office generally has a student worker, many of whom are work study students. Many have been single moms facing huge challenges to attend college. For each of the young women who have come through her office, for as long as she has worked here, Sarah has become their mentor. She works to teach them skills that are not taught in school, like money management, career planning, building self esteem and goal setting. I have never seen one of her student workers who has not blossomed under her tutelage. Some have seen for the very first time career options that they never dreamed possible. When difficulties have arisen in their lives, Sarah is quick to help them consider all solutions, make phone calls for assistance on their behalf and doing whatever it takes to help them regain control of their life. Because of her efforts, these women have stronger ties to Lone Star College-Kingwood and return often to visit or to seek fulltime employment opportunities. We could all learn from her quiet dedication to helping these young people find a better life.
